I’m back…..

November 27th, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

It has been one month since I came back from my leave, I feel having no motivation to prepare my future plan for getting MBA scholarship. I don’t know why, but to be honest I’m being in low motivation because I work in very remote location and there is just a little facility provided. The other reason is my English proficiency. I often think it is very hard to improve my English. While my academic records since elementary school is excellent, my English is very bad. May be it sounds silly to tell, my father is an English teacher in senior high school, but in my SMU academic record, my English score was the lowest one. Thinking about this make me frustrated.

This morning, I went to library and read SWA magazine. It was about the dream team marketers the article I read. The young marketers with limited facilities challenge their self to reach the best. With the diligent, smart working, and the correct strategy, they succeed to increase selling significantly. This is the great story that inspired me. In the young age, they have their own business.

Open the computer and click on milisbeasiswa, I read about ADB scholarship funded by Japan Government. This gives me more option to pursue my dream, because actually there are so many scholarships available. So why kill the time just to regret that your English is bad??? Take it as challenge hehe…. I’m come back!!!!!

Air plane was landing on Melbourne International Airport. I step down into bagage room, waiting for bagage. I was going to my rent apartment near Melbourne Bussiness School. When I step into my apartment, I am surprised. It was really amazing. I never knew I’d stay in a single apartment. Soon I put my personal belonging on the place after that I am looking around all apartment. I was looking  if there is any person I could talk to. I really stranged with Melbourne, yet I was never abroad before. That why I was a little bit confused. Fortunately, I met John, my neighboor in this apartment. He stay upper of my apartment. Same like me, he is a second year student international MBA at MBS . He comes from London. We found our self having same topic to talk. We both like football, specially English Premier League. But we have different favourite team. He likes Chelsea but me Arsenal. He told me how pride he is for Chelsea. We talk about studying in MBS as well. I asked him much about tips to adapt to new enviroment. John help me very much in expelling my fear. I’m very happy for the coming day. I’m an MBA student at MBS. Wow, its really nice.

Like I was dreaming, seeing one of the best Business School in the world. I met Sarah at the admission office. She is from Aljazair. She is a kind hearted person. We talked much about economic development in the third country. She told me how multinational corporation explore the Africa’s resources by leaving It’s people remain poor. We talked our working experience as well. She had a unique working experience, at least for me. She worked for national Aljazair government in developing small and medium size enterprise. I know from the way she talked that she is very pride of her job. We also talked about our hobby and interests. Having registered, We was to a Japanese restaurant near college. While we were having lunch, she told me much about his country. I knew that she was very pride of her nation.

Enjoying Badminton…It’s not bad

September 13th, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

Starting my day with new activity.

Get off my bed, take a bath, go to messhall for breakfast, and prepare for new activity. Practicing badminton is my new activity today. Yet a little disconfort, It’s a wonderful day. I found myself give extra effort to do well in my new activity. It really help me broaden my comfort zone.

At 10.00 AM, I finished the game and back to my room. I read FORTUNE magazine. I like the article about how companny is tapping costumers. It was written that many multinational company rely on survey result in developing their products. Generally, in this information age, they get feed back from costumer through internet survey. They make a quiz or prize contest to collect information from costumer about what kind or model of product they preffer to. Smart idea!!! I think it has done too here, especially in entertaiment business.

12.00 AM get into messhall for lunch and get on my bed at 13.00 after zuhur pray.

03.30 get up of my bed and ready for routinity, working I mean. With extra effort, I get into my office at 05.15 PM, I found my inbox almost 100. The most I like is the one from Ibu Anggraini Veronica, Alumni International MBA, RSM Erasmus University. I deliberately happy getting this email. She told me that it is very important to me to hear from the ones that have got MBA scholarship. I believe that She is very supportive and pleasant personality as well as other MBA RSM’s alumni like Anna.

Cooking in the office pantry. This is what my guys do on the night shift. I enjoy it very much, especially when meal from messhall not has a taste for me. That also myway to make them happy. I always believe when people are happy, they will give their best for work. It was Erwin, one of my crew member, who told me once we happy we will do the best. That’s what I see in my daily supervision.

The way we solve the problem…..

September 6th, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

Problem is every day matter. Like or not, we will find problems wherever we are, whenever it is. At home, in office, in daily activity, when you are with your friends or neighbor. You’ll find problem. Something which is no matter for you, it will be problem for others. It is also on the other way, some things you feel fine, it will be big problem for others. That’s the world where we live.

When the morning comes, may be you lazy to get up from your bad. This can be a problem when you should arrive in your office on time. When you are on the bus stopping and get ready into bus, may be some one you do not know, cross over your line. It could make your blood boil. When your peer kidding you while you are confusing with your boss, may be you will be offended. You will take it personally.

There are thousands or millions problem out there. The question is how ready we are to solve them. How many times in one day we react to the problems reactively. How often we exaggerated problems.

When life become harder and more competitive and the world become more crowded, we should realize that we need more wisdom. We need more to use emotional intelligent. We need to use spiritual intelligent more. We need to control our self first before giving our response to a problem.

That’s why emotional intelligent become more urgent. Emotional is a powerful energy. It can be useful or destroying. Depend on how we manage it. It needs to be noted that emotion is quite different with anger. I prefer to say "manage" than "control" in expressing managing emotion. Managing emotion means that we put it into the right place to help us solve the problem. Use its energy to help us. Don’t let it disturb what we are going to do.

To succeed in managing emotion we need to be patient, having ability to listen with empathy, completely understanding the case before giving response. The people those good in emotional intelligence prefer to be proactive. They prepare well before the bad things happen. They anticipate the problem before it comes to. They are those always learn from what happen in the past. They do not regret, but take positive things from the past. They always positive thinking, because they sure there are always blessing in disguise.

When we think in a positive way, it means that we are 1 step ahead the problem. Remember, we should be smarter in solving problem. Not the same smart when the problem comes. If you are positive thinking, you have unlimited resources to solve the problem.

Look (listen), think, asses, and act. That’s the way to solve the problem in orderly.

My Story

September 1st, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

Gapuy, is a village located in Kabupaten Pidie, Atjeh. It is located behind Jabal Ghafur hill. All around it’s is paddy field. It is divided into west and east by a river that always flowed through paddy-fields. Jabal Ghafur hill, that is located at west of Gapuy, was a jungle initially. Then, there were built a university named University of Jabal Ghafur. As a local university, it was just attended by small amount students. The people of Gapuy, as noticed by official government office, are Moslem. They engaged with traditional values that was valid hereditary. Generally, they sent their children to religious school named Pesantren. Only a little of them send their children to government or official school. My house is at west side of the river. It is only a simple house. But I always want to be there. I like spending my time along with my brother and sister, cooking my favorite food (Indomie), or just hang on in front of my house. All around of my house is coconut tree. In mid day, when the weather is hot, I like to pick some of young coconut. Blow with a little ice cubes, it tasted so fresh. When my little brother came home from school, I like to ask him play small games, or just made fun and laughing together. When my mother was still along with us, she like seeing what we do. Sometimes we went to grand father’s house and asked him to tell about his live story. He was born when our land still under colonialism. Therefore he used to tell us about war story. My grandpa was a tall man, not like me, short and thin. When I was child, I also used to ask him some money just to buy snacks in the store. He was very kind to me. Now, I am so far away from my village. My mother and my grand father have passed away. It has been 8 years since my leaving for Jogja I never been completely along with all of my brother and sister. I really miss them. I hope to meet them in this coming Lebaran.

Regarding my Mother

August 30th, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

It had been 1 year since my mother passed away. I still feel lost. No one can replace her in my heart. Her loving and care about me was irreplaceable. I always miss her. As a mother, she gave everything she had for her son and doughter. She tought me how to treat others with the affection. She tought me how to read and write, she tought me everythig when I was child until her last breath. When I step on mature, she gave me a freedom to choose what to do. But she still directed.

What makes me so proud is that she worked so hard to raise me. More than others in my village, she did everything she could. She also been informal teacher for other kids in my village. I still could see that everyday after sunset, she sat in the "Balai Ngaji" and taught me and other kids how to read al-qur’an. She informed us all about religious knowledge. When women in the village has religious event, they always ask my mother to be leader. All people in the village treated her respecfully.

Now, on the top of Grasberg mountain, in my workplace, I regard all of her goodness. I hope she is in an appropriate place where the angels travelled around him.

Managing Personal Relationship

August 29th, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

The easy way an employee become rich

August 22nd, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

" Cara Mudah Orang Gajian Menjadi Kaya" or "The easy way an employee become rich" (betul gak sih translatenya?) is the latest book I read. Eventhough the title of the book a little bit simplify the problem, I get many points from the book about how to manage financial aspect of  an employee.

Become rich and happiness are every one dream, include employee. But the fact, many employees live with had enough income. They don’t have saving, get many debt, and their income would be minus before the running month over. What wrong with most of employee? one of the root cause is that they can’t manage finacial aspect precisely.

The author offer the formula what he said "Formula 1 2 3 4". The point is to manage our income to get enough saving so we can invest to build productive asset. If we have productive asset, it can increases our income. In  the Formula, 1 means that 10% of our income is allocated for social aspect such as helping our close relative or friends, donating for social or religious activity, etc. By allocating 10% for donating, it means that we care each other. But the other side we strict with the budget.

2 means that 20% of income is allocated for our hobby, recreation, or interest. Remember that by doing our hobby or recreation will refresh us in doing our job in the office. After working all week, you need new atmosphere for refreshing so that you can find out inspiration for your job. Your hobby or interest also can be a valuable investing. You can meet with people from vary background, it really help you to build your career. When you have broad knowledge, your career will open and you will have many choices. Your hoby can be developed to a bussines if someday you decide tp resign from your job.

3 means that 30% of your income is allocated for saving. If you start saving right now, it means that you accumulate capital of investment. It is important to you to keep in mind that your savings is not to used as your future consumable needs.

4 means that 40% of your income is allocated for daily expense. It’s not easy to sufficed your daily expense with just 40% of your income especially when your earning is just a little bit above UMR. But if you learn to manage your daily expense precisely, tou will able to do it. Always plan your daily needs. Don’t buy what you think you need, just buy what you really need.

To be honest, the booked has already inspired me how to manage finacial aspect. Thanks Author……

Some one inspired me

August 18th, 2006 by sayed-mahdi

Having read Syani blogs inspired me to write anything to my blog. Thanks Syani :)

Tonight is my last day working on night shift, then I’ll be off duty for 3 days. Usually i used to sleep along day when day off. But now English test is waiting for me, so I must give extra time to read a pile of paper. Otherwise, i am potentially to fail.

Working at 4200 m above sea level is an excited experiance. Seing snow, meeting new people both national and expatriates, exposing to the cold weather, or just walking on the huge stones are really chellenging. I enjoy every step on the top of mountain. Especially coz it gives me opportunity to learn english more than i had have.

My dilemma, I live so far away from my beloved. I really love her and hope to spend every second and minute with her. What i can say to my self is " To get something better, you must give xtra efforts" No pain no gain, that’s the success peaple usually said. Sending sound through air, hearing her voice via phone, or just read her mail makes me happy. Now, I am missing her very much.

Tonight, My crew guys cooked fried rice in the office. It was really hot but i enjoyed it and good to expelled the cold wather. My crew guys is the reason why i like working here. They are very supportive to all my projects. thaks guys.

The foolish thing happened to me today. When i were out of my room and leaved to the mosque, I missed my room key inside. You know, after stayed up all the night until sun rose, finding out the way to open ur room was  very unhappy job.

The freedom spirit is still covered me and my people. The peace and freedom are what i feel in this independent day. After 30 years involved in bloody conflict, Atjeh now is in peace. No more fire and gun. No more wars and blood. No more crying and tears. No more people died in vain. All that we need is peace. Thanks to God.

Grasberg, 18 August 2006.
